Watch New Orleans Saints vs. Atlanta Falcons on Amazon Prime Video
Here’s everything you need to know about Thursday’s NFL game between the Saints and Falcons and how to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
New Orleans has a division title within reach but the defending NFC South champion Falcons aren’t ready to give up their division crown. The 9-3 Saints will play the 7-5 Falcons twice in a span of three weeks as the reigning NFC champions are still alive in the NFC South race, but Matt Ryan, Julio Jones and the Falcons need to beat Drew Brees and the Saints on Thursday night to have a fighting chance.
If the Falcons have any chance at pulling off the home upset, it has to start with the Falcons rush defense that has a big challenge in front of them. Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara have proven to be a dynamic duo in the backfield as the Saints have shifted from a pass-heavy offense led by future Hall of Fame quarterback Brees to a balanced attack with Ingram and Kamara shouldering the load. This has resulted in Brees not being tasked with doing everything for the Saints and it’s resulted in the Saints having their best team since they won the Super Bowl years ago.
The Falcons, meanwhile, have had to rely on the duo of Ryan and Jones with Devonta Freeman missing action with a concussion. He returned to the lineup in Week 13 against the Vikings and had 74 yards on 12 carries. That was his highest rushing output since Week 3 at Detroit when he had 106 yards. A healthy Freeman could provide balance to the offense and prevent defenses from scheming to take Jones out of the offense.
Also helping in the effort to slow down Jones is the potential return of rookie cornerback Marshon Lattimore from a sprained ankle. He is a leading candidate for the Defensive Rookie of the Year so his return would be a big advantage for the Saints.
