Amazon Key will allow delivery people inside your home
Amazon Key is the latest product offering from Amazon and will let delivery drivers inside your home when you’re away.
Amazon is known for their innovation and cutting-edge products that make things easier for the consumer. Whether it’s their Alexa products that make our homes into smart homes, Amazon Prime, Amazon Fresh, Amazon Music and all sorts of other gadgets and goodies, the latest offering from Amazon is being met with a great deal of skepticism.
Why are people skeptical of the latest product?
Because it lets strangers into the homes of people receiving deliveries from Amazon while they’re away.
Amazon Key launches on Nov. 8 for Prime members and will cost $249.99.
Now you’re saying to yourself, “I need to pay that much money to let some stranger inside my home when I’m not there so I can get my Amazon package?!”
Yes, that’s it. But Amazon is making it as safe as they can. Amazon Key comes with a security camera and smart lock so you can monitor the deliveries as they take place. This way you’re not just letting a delivery person roam through your home without you being there. That would be weird, right? And totally intrusive. It’s basically letting the person rob you because you really had to get your package while you were at work.
In reality, Amazon is trying to make this a convenience for people who aren’t home during the workday and don’t want their packages left outside their door where other residents in an apartment or condominium could easily steal the package that’s left by the door. Plus, this can be used for other family members who frequently visit your place, or a dog walker or maid so you don’t need to leave a spare key under the welcome mat.

It’s relying on technology and security equipment to provide a convenience while also being safe. Now doesn’t that sound a little different than giving free access to a stranger to put their feet up on your couch, go through your fridge and snoop through all your belongings?
The Amazon Key is only available for Prime members and in select cities. But does this service sound like something you would be interested in?
