The music world was saddened to hear the news that Tom Petty is clinging to life and he’s not expected to live much longer.

The music world mourns today as rock and roll legend Tom Petty was rushed to a hospital after he was found unresponsive and in cardiac arrest. His family has a do not resuscitate on him and he was removed from life support. TMZ originally reported Petty had died, but later reports clarified Petty was clinging to life and the news of his passing was inadvertently passed along by the LAPD. Petty doesn’t have long to live and the formal announcement of his death is only a matter of time it would appear.

A generation that grew up listening to “Free Fallin'” off the classic “Full Moon Fever” album to those who discovered him with his Wildflowers album featuring the single “You Don’t Know How It Feels” and “Last Dance with Mary Jane” are just in a state of shock. I recall listening to Petty’s Greatest Hits album on a road trip from Illinois to Florida in 1994. Every single was a legit hit. There was no need to fast forward on the cassette player in the car. It reminded me of memories of listening to his songs with my brothers and my dad. And I’m sure fans of Petty were feeling similar emotions. After I heard the news and processed it as best I could, I spent the next two hours listening to his greatest hits all over again.

You can do the same on Amazon Music.

I’ve embedded a music player with Petty’s greatest songs throughout his Hall of Fame career. It’s got 344 songs in total on it, so that’s hours and hours of Petty for you to jam out to when you see fit. Whether you need a new playlist to get you through a workout or something to play as you do stuff around the house or if you’re like me and need something to listen to on the headphones while working at the computer, remembering these great songs helps me pay tribute to an artist I’ve been listening to since I first discovered music.
