Amazon did not win any major Emmys at the 69th Annual Primetime Emmys hosted by Stephen Colbert.

It was a tough night at the 69th Annual Primetime Emmys for Amazon. The streaming network was shut out for all the major awards at the Primetime Emmys.

Amazon did win two Creative Arts Emmys announced the weekend prior to the Emmys. One of those Emmys was for their original series Mozart in the Jungle.

It’s not exactly surprising Amazon was shut out at the Primetime Emmys. The network’s shows were only nominated for three Emmys, and each of those were for the series Transparent. Jeffrey Tambor was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, and Judith Light and Kathryn Hahn were each nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

While great performances, there were better shows on this year, and that’s why they did not win these awards.

More problematic for Amazon, Hulu and Netflix, their direct competition, each took home Emmys in major categories. We have no doubt Amazon will get back in the game next year and into the future. These Emmys were proof the streaming networks are gaining steam and popularity, and that those streaming networks are making great TV.

Based on their recent investments, it seems like Amazon might be getting into the realm of live sports. That will take another significant investment to make up ground their. That could tilt their focus away from the TV shows.

We’ve also seen Amazon ramp up their investment in movies, and they won an Oscar last year for their film Manchester by the Sea. That could also negatively impact their TV shows, simply because their money is being spent elsewhere.

Ultimately, I don’t think Amazon is in trouble by any means. They are dominating in many other business ventures. They have some steep competition for talent and making solid shows in Hulu, Netflix and, of course, HBO, the gold standard of TV.
