Amazon renews Transparent for season 5 ahead of season 4 premiere
Amazon has renewed its flagship series as Transparent has been granted a fifth season ahead of the season 4 premiere.
A little less than a month before the Transparent season 4 premiere on Amazon Video, the series has been renewed for a fifth season, which is expected to premiere in 2018. The fourth season of Transparent will be released on Amazon Prime Video on Sept. 22 and the early renewal for a fifth season suggests the show could last a few more seasons beyond the fifth season. This is all subject to change depending on the writers, producers and cast, but considering it’s the premiere show on Amazon Video, it stands to reason that Amazon would like to keep this relationship going as long as it makes sense. What’s important to note is the renewal didn’t come with any caveats that season 5 would be the last season, so that has me thinking the show will go for at least six or seven seasons.

“We are extremely grateful to Amazon Studios for their continued trust and support and to our audience for their warm embrace of the Pfeffermans,” said creator/exec producer Jill Soloway, via Variety. “We look forward to another season of comedy and drama, love and weirdness, God and sex – in the service of community and in pursuit of peace, joy, freedom and human rights for all.”
While the specific storylines for season 4 will hinge upon what happens across the fourth season next month, Amazon was able to confirm that the main Transparent cast will be returning for the fifth season. Further, Andrea Landecker, Jill Soloway and Andrea Sperling will remain on board as executive producers.
The series is nominated for five Emmy Awards at next month’s ceremony, which comes five days before the season 4 premiere. Jeffrey Tambor is a two-time Emmy Award winner for his portrayal of Maura Pferfferman, a transgender woman who comes out later in life as her family reacts and adjusts to the news. He’s up for Best Actor in a Comedy this year. Judith Light and Kathryn Hahn are nominated in the supporting actress category. Light, Gaby Hoffmann and Jay Duplass will be returning for season 5, but there’s no confirmation about the status of Hahn’s character.
