9. “Galway Girl”

Ed actually had to fight to keep this song on the album. In an interview with GQ, Sheeran noted that he felt the song would be a great hit, but others were telling him to let it go.

It was influenced by Van Morrison’s “Irish Heartbeat.” “Galway Girl” is a black-haired, blue-eyed girl from Galway and by the end of the song, we felt like we knew her.

The Feels: Mixing cultures and celebrating it is something we can all get behind. Sheeran exposes a Irish woman finding love with an English man with no regrets. Also, how awesome is the Irish Fiddle player?

The Lyrics: Crafty Ed! He created this upbeat, exciting, and well written piece to give us a brand new mixture of music. My favorite line was “She played the fiddle in an Irish band
But she fell in love with an English man
.” The way Ed sings this song brings the simple lyrics to life and creates an amazing picture.

The Beat: Mixing Irish folk and his acoustic gives us a song we can dance to. It is difficult not to tap your leg, bounce your foot, or make any movement during the song. It is also nice to hear Sheeran come back to rapping once again.
