Ed admitted the background to this song to a JustJared interviewer. Ed’s grandmother was sick and fought her battle all throughout Ed’s time recording the album. This song was written in the point of view of his mom as her mother passed away. He refused to put it on the album but his grandfather thought it was the perfect way to honor her.

The Feels: When I first played this song, there was not a dry eye in the car. I immediately text my mom and told her I loved her. This song hits close to home and we think about our own moms and how we never want to lose them. Or, for the one who have, you use this song as a way to commemorate their love.

The Lyrics: “You were an angel in the shape of my mom.” How incredibly beautiful is that line? To think of your passing mother as an angel sent here to protect you. Ed really hit hard on this song and used it as a storytelling piece.

The Beat: The sound of a soft piano is perfect to showcase the simpleness, yet heartache of losing a loved one.
