The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is one five Amazon Pilots in the running for a full season’s order worth of episodes and if Amazon is smart, it’ll order that right now.

There are five pilots on Amazon vying for a chance to get a full season on Prime Video. It just so happens the last one I watched happened to be the best. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was so incredibly good that I wish I could binge-watch an entire season’s worth of episodes this weekend.

I know it’ll be a lengthy wait, something like 9-12 months, provided it does get picked up, and if Amazon is smart, and they are, a full season of this show is what they need to make their next project. I think The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel can blow up and be the next “it” show on Prime Video, joining others like Transparent, The Man in the High Castle, Mozart in the Jungle and comedies like Catastrophe and Fleabag. The series was created by Gilmore Girls and Bunheads creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and stars Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards) as Mrs. Maisel. The episode

The series is set in 1958 Manhattan and starts out with Miriam (Midge) being a bit outspoken at her wedding to an aspiring comedian named Joel (Michael Zegen – Rescue Me) and transitions from there to show her living the life she always thought she was meant to live.

That is until Joel realizes he’s not as funny as he thought he is and his dreams of being a comedian come to a crashing halt. After bombing on stage, he decides to leave his wife and kids, the day before Yom Kippur and forces her to start over. Through that emotional trauma, she discovers that she is the real comedian in the family when she gets on stage where Joel performed and becomes an instant sensation with a revealing first set.

I really hope this show gets picked up because there needs to be more shows with Jewish women as the lead character. We need more diversity on TV and we need more shows created by women and featuring women, and I think the Sherman-Palladino/Brosnahan combination is a killer duo that Amazon needs to give the fans.

If you’re like me and want Amazon to pick up The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, you can fill out a survey to provide your feedback and let them know you want more of this promising show.
