When will Vikings Season 5 be on Amazon Prime Video?

When is the Vikings Season 5 release date on Amazon Prime Video? We have a prediction!

We have seen many of our readers asking about when Vikings Season 5 will be released on Amazon Prime Video following the Vikings Season 4 finale. We don’t know exactly, but we think episodes of Vikings Season 5 will be released on Amazon Prime Video in January or February 2018. 

At the time of publishing, we still don’t know when Vikings Season 5 premieres. If we had that information, it would be easy to figure out when the first half of the fifth season would be released. We do know Vikings has been renewed for a 20-episode fifth season on The History Channel, according to a Variety report. That means the fifth season will be split into two, 10-episode parts like the fourth season.

This is going to get very confusing, so I’m going to give you a bulleted list to help sort through the release dates.

  • Vikings Season 4 Finale Date: February 1, 2017
  • Vikings Season 4 Part 2 hits Prime Video: May 2017
  • Expected Vikings Season 5 Premiere: August 2017 
  • Expected Vikings Season 5 Part 1 Finale: October 2017
  • Vikings Season 5 Part 1 released on Prime Video: January or February 2018

In the past, it was easy to predict when Vikings would be back on The History Channel. They would premiere in late February or early March for the first four seasons. Now, because they are making 20 episodes per year, which is double what they were doing, there is going to be a six-month gap, at least in between seasons, and probably halves of seasons.

So, the fourth season just ended on Feb. 1, so let’s say Vikings returns for the fifth season in July or August this year. The season will be ten weeks long and should run through October or possibly November. Then, seasons of Vikings are added to Amazon Prime Video three months after the season ends. And, the first half of Vikings Season 5 would be released in January or February 2018.

That, then, sets up for the second half of Vikings Season 5 to premiere in May 2018, which would mean Part 2 would be released on Prime Video in the fall of 2018.

Of course, all of that is not official. It’s just our prediction at this point, and we will keep them until we are proven wrong.
