There’s something supremely singular about the romantic comedies of the early aughts. Maybe it’s the recycled cast members, the predictably pop-rock soundtracks, or the comfortable narratives, but rom-coms were never better than in the age of Kate Hudson. But we’re not losing a guy in 10 days here—we’re dealing with A Guy Thing.

The morning after his bachelor party, Paul (Jason Lee) wakes up beside Becky (Julia Stiles), a waitress from the restaurant. Despite forming a connection with the mysterious stranger, Paul tries to keep whatever happened a secret from his soon-to-be wife Karen (Selma Blair). However, covering his tracks becomes trickier when he learns Becky is Karen’s cousin.

Of course, the film gets its title from the saddest excuse for abhorrent male behavior in the book: “It’s a guy thing.” Surprisingly, for all of his collected bad deeds, Paul gets off easy. But with the likable Julia Stiles and Selma Blair rounding out the cast, A Guy Thing remains a sweet and hilariously cringeworthy romantic comedy.
