Like any self-respecting romantic comedy, Not Another Happy Ending employs a narrative that pushes its leads together. Think the bet in How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days or magical flash forward that reunites Jennifer Garner with Mark Ruffalo in 13 Going on 30. In the British rom-com, it’s all about happiness.
Jane Lockhart (Karen Gillan) scores her first bestselling novel, but when it’s time to pen her follow-up, she learns that she can’t create when she’s happy. In order to put a cap on her happiness and get another book to save the publisher, editor Tom (Stanley Weber) makes it his mission to turn her frown right side up. But along the way, he realizes he has fallen for her.
Not Another Happy Ending earned its budget via crowdfunding and later premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2013. The film stars Karen Gillan, who you may have seen in Doctor Who, Guardians of the Galaxy, or ABC’s short-lived comedy Selfie.
