Phoebe Waller-Bridge is so bloody brilliant in Fleabag that her show moves up in our latest update of the 50 best comedy TV shows on Amazon Prime.

One of my new favorite shows on Amazon Prime is the dark comedy Fleabag, starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge who also created the series. If you are a fan of dark comedy, Fleabag is the show for you because it redefines what dark comedy is in today’s TV climate.

It’s hard to make a show about a woman grieving over the death of her best friend and business partner, but somehow she manages to do just that. But it’s also so well done that it doesn’t gloss over the dark, gloomy and melancholy aspects of her life. It can’t always be sunshine and rainbows because that’s annoying and unrealistic and Fleabag is about as subtle as a punch to the nose in presenting that to the viewer.

I think it’s that balance between laughter and crushing reminders of the realities, pressures, stresses and anxiety of adulthood that makes this such a standout show. And a show that moves up our ranking of the 50 best comedy TV on Amazon Prime.

The show was previously ranked largely on reputation alone because Waller-Bridge was so outstanding in Crashing, which I saw on Netflix, but after a second trip through Fleabag, this show was deserving of a larbe bump up the rankings.

Also starring opposite Waller-Bridge are Hugh Skinner, Sian Clifford, Brett Gelman, Bill Paterson and Olivia Colman who is pretty much in everything these days, and awesome in everything she does.

The first season is six episodes long and each episode is just under a half hour. It makes for a quick watch because of the short season, so I’d recommend watching the entire season this week. If you like Fleabag, then I’d suggest you watch Crashing on Netflix for a double dose of Waller-Bridge.
