11. Billy mourns Rachel’s death
Although Billy knew Rachel only for a short amount of time, he instantly connected with his client. Aside from their sexual encounter, Rachel awoke a drive within Billy to fight to the death to win this case. Billy understood that no one delivered justice as the mega defense company walked away from their colossal accident with no repercussions whatsoever. Thus, Billy expressed deep sadness when he visited Rachel’s dead body.
Billy cried over Rachel’s body. While he spoke to the lifeless corpse, he mentioned his inability to pray. He had no idea what to do in such a situation. As a result, Billy told the story of David and Goliath with a twist. He retold the story as it was told in Hoosiers. Lastly, he put his ring on Rachel before he left to symbolize their connection to each other.
Billy Bob Thornton acted superbly in this scene. He communicated the same vulnerability that individuals feel when they have lost a loved one. He somehow made a reference to the sports movie Hoosiers seem appropriate for the situation at hand.
