 14. Billy chats with two fisherman

Episode 1, “Of Mice and Men”

Here, Billy McBride tried to gather information about the explosion on the night that Mr. Larson died. At first, billy adopted a friendly approach to speak to the men about the incident. When the men do not cooperate, Billy immediately switched to a hostile tone to threaten the men and denounce their story about that night. He poked at their intelligence at the same time. Before he even received an answer, Billy switched back to a friendly tone in which he asked the men to enjoy a few beers with him.

During their meeting, Billy extracted the story from the men after he encouraged the fishermen to drink a few more beers. Once the men explained the insurance process, Billy again pointed out their ignorance. He asked why would an insurance company, who did not have the men as clients, be compelled to pay the fishermen within ten minutes.

Thornton worked his magic in this sequence. He flawlessly displayed a wide set of emotions in such a short period of time. He threatened the men but also showed a sense of security for the men to tell their story.
