15. Juliana Meets the Man in the High Castle
Episode 1, “The Tiger’s Cave”
The Man in the High Castle wasted little time in revealing the Man in the High Castle. Played by Stephen Root, Abendsen briefly spoke with Juliana before he unveiled a room filled with a collection of films. Each film depicted a different reality with a common factor, a mysterious man who turned out to be George Dixon. Abendsen tasked Juliana with determining George’s identity because he possessed the key to stopping nuclear warfare.
Juliana undermined the entire Resistance operation when she gave Joe leave the film in the Season 1 finale. Therefore, her meeting with Abendsen seemed strange, but his reasoning worked out by the end of the season. Juliana acted as the main link in a chain of events the stopped the Nazis from absolutely decimating the Japanese just to fulfill their twisted and sadistic vision of a pure world.
Abendsen propelled Juliana to conduct an important mission to save the world. Surely, this outcome seemed extreme and dramatic. Nonetheless, this moment’s shock value finally labeled the elusive Man in the High Castle with a name and face for viewers.
