6. The Reich Salutes Smith

 Episode 10, “Fallout”

John Smith received a resounding salute from the audience at Himmler’s address to the German people and military. Originally, Heusmann planned to launch the nuclear missiles upon Japanese targets to commence Phase 1 of the military strategy. Luckily, Smith presented Himmler with the evidence of Heusmann’s treachery. Himmler acted quickly to arrest Heusmann in a timely fashion before the Nazis entered yet another war.

During this rapid chain of events, Himmler placed Joe under arrest as well. His arrest may be questionable considering how Joe helped Smith exhibit the film of the bomb tests in the Pacific to the military leaders. Otherwise, the massive audience in attendance for the speech echoed the deep devotion to the cause still alive and well in the Reich. Despite the numerous Resistance efforts shown on screen, they are only a blemish on the Nazi control over its territories.

Overall, the Reich honored Smith’s loyalty for his actions. However, in the context of the situation, Smith selected the lesser of two evils where the Nazi way of life would still continue throughout the world despite the radical attempt to seize power.
