Amazon racked up 11 Golden Globes nominations of their TV shows Transparent, Mozart in the Jungle, and Goliath along with the Amazon film Manchester by the Sea!

Amazon led the way for streaming networks with 11 Golden Globes nominations, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter. Overall, Netflix and Amazon split in the TV categories with five nominations each.

Amazon’s Mozart in the Jungle was nominated for two awards, Best TV Show- Comedy or Musical and Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical (Gael Garcia Bernal).

Transparent was also nominated in the same categories as Mozart in the Jungle. Jeffrey Tambor was nominated for Best Actor for Transparent. It should be noted that Tambor and Bernal have taken home the last two Best Comedy/Musical Actor Awards at the Golden Globes.

Billy Bob Thornton was also nominated for Best Actor in a Drama Series for his role in Goliath.

The Amazon original film Manchester by the Sea was nominated for five Golden Globes including Best Motion Picture- Drama, Best Leading Actor- Drama (Casey Affleck), Best Supporting Actress- Drama (Michelle Williams), Best Director (Kenneth Lonergan), and Best Screenplay (Kenneth Lonergan).

Amazon also had another film The Salesman nominated for Best Foreign Film.

Amazon is in uncharted territory as a streaming service with Manchester by the Sea, which seems like the favorite to win at the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards, as well. No streaming network has won a Golden Globe or an Oscar in a major motion picture category.

Other great Amazon originals like Catastrophe, The Man in the High Castle, and One Mississippi were not nominated for any Golden Globes this year.

Like we have mentioned before, it’s nice to get recognition from the critical powers that be, but that’s not always the goal. It’s certainly not the end of the world for Amazon that some of their biggest shows were not nominated for any awards. It doesn’t mean the shows that go nominated were better than others.

In fact, I think Catastrophe is the best show Amazon has had a hand in making so far, and The Man in the High Castle is probably Amazon’s most entertaining drama, and that’s not a slight against some of Amazon’s other great shows. It’s just proof that the shows a lot of people like watching are not the ones that win all the awards.

The Golden Globes are scheduled to air on Sunday, January 8, 2017 on NBC. Jimmy Fallon is hosting the awards this year!
