The Revenant is based on the life story of Hugh Glass, a frontiersman who lived and explored the unknown as a fur trapper and trader during the 1800s.

The novel was also a New York Times Bestseller.

The Revenant was nominated for 12 Oscars at the 2016 Academy Awards, which includes all the major categories: Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Leonardo DiCaprio), Best Supporting Actor (Tom Hardy), Best Director, and more.

The film won three Academy Awards. DiCaprio won his first Oscar ever for Best Leading Actor. Director Alejandro Iñárritu won the Oscar for Best Director, and Emmanuel Lubezki won the award for Best Cinematography.
