The Big Short is written by Michael Lewis, who also wrote the book The Blind Side about NFL player Michael Oher. The Blind Side also became an Oscar-winning film.

The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine is a New York Times Bestseller. The non-fiction book tells the story of the most recent collapse of the credit and housing markets in America.

The Big Short was nominated for five Oscars: Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Christian Bale), Best Director, and Best Editing. The film won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, which is as much of a tribute to Michael Lewis and the book as it is to Charles Randolph and Adam McKay for writing the screenplay.
