3. Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)
Director: Blake Edwards
Starring: Audrey Hepburn, George Peppard, Patricia Neal, Buddy Ebsen, Mickey Rooney, Martin Balsam, John McGiver, Stanley Adams, Alan Reed Sr.
By the measures of most, Breakfast at Tiffany’s is one of the most classic romantic comedy movies, or simply just movies, of all time. Though some people tend to shy away from older movies when scrolling through streaming catalogs, that’d be a mistake here.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s stars Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly, a socialite in Manhattan who seems to always be involved in something fascinating, particularly in the eyes of her new neighbor, Paul. However, as Paul and Holly continue to get to know each other and become acquainted behind the curtain, he soon realizes that she’s equally as fascinating though she may not be the affluent tart that some see her as. Her life isn’t all sunshine and roses as Paul discovers her complexity both on the inside and out.
Based on the novel by Truman Capote, it figures that Breakfast at Tiffany’s would feature a fantastic narrative arc. However, the plot itself is aided by tremendous acting performances and the evocation if laughter and feelings that linger long after the final credits roll on Breakfast of Tiffany’s.
