Starring: Ewan McGregor, Emily Blunt, Kristin Scott Thomas, Amr Waked, Tom Mison, Rachael Stirling, Conleth Hill, Catherine Steadman, Tom Beard

There certainly aren’t many stories quite as unique in the romantic comedy genre that are as unique as Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, which is undoubtedly part of the film’s appeal. The movie uses that inventive narrative to tell a story of hardship, love, trying circumstance, and a beautiful blend of comedy and drama.

A fish expert named Alfred is tasked with what seems like an impossible task behind the bankroll of a Yemini sheikh and the advisement of a finance expert by the name of Harriet to release salmon into the Yemen for the purpose of fishing. Between a mix of government influence, Islamic outrage over the sheikh’s ambitions, and both Alfred and Harriet dealing with trials in their respective relationships, what follows is the tale of two unlikely partners watching their relationship grow as they both try to weather the storm upon them.

There certainly isn’t a great deal of slapstick humor, but Salmon Fishing in the Yemen touches every emotion necessary in a romantic film while also providing a hefty dose of situational and equally touching comedic moment.
