8. Serendipity (2001)

Director: Peter Chelsom

Starring: John Cusack, Kate Beckinsale, Jeremy Piven, Molly Shannon, John Corbett, Bridget Moynahan, Eugene Levy, Lucy Gordon

In terms of romantic storytelling, Serendipity is certainly a creative endeavor in how they go about telling a love story—and it works wonderfully for the genre as Peter Chelsom’s film is sure to make anyone who watches it feel warm and fuzzy inside.

The movie starts out with Jonathan (John Cusack) and Sara (Kate Beckinsale) having a chance meeting in New York City and, despite being in relationships, spending a night together fueled by their obvious attraction to one another. However, rather than agreeing to see one another again, they decide to let fate be the deciding factor. Jonathan writes his number on a $5 bill while Sara writes in a copy of Love in the Time of Cholera and the couple agrees that, if they’re meant to be, they’ll find their ways back to one another.

What follows is a fantastic journey through the lives of these two characters with each wondering if they’re destined for other things or just destined to end up together in the end. While it may be a bit cheesy, it tugs at all of the feelings while making you laugh along the way.
