It’s a weird concept, right? And, it’s the main conflict in the alternate history story of The Man in the High Castle.
Obviously, the world would look completely different if the Nazis and Japanese had defeated the United States in World War II, but it’s even crazier to imagine what would have happened to the United States.
No one knows what exactly the country would look like. In terms of storytelling, having Japan and the Nazis occupying separate coasts is a perfect set-up because it creates so much opportunity beneath the surface. The countries are pitted against each other, and there’s so much scrambling and positioning going on in the series that it makes it very interesting.
