Oasis is one of the five new pilots on Amazon, but will the sci-fi program starring Game of Thrones actor Richard Madden receive a full season order?

Amazon released five pilots as part of their Pilot Season and are asking for fans to provide their opinion to help determine what gets a full season’s worth of episodes. Three are half-hour comedies while two are hour-long dramas, including the sci-fi series Oasis. I watched the three comedies first as I went through my reviews for each and speculated about the fate of the show and then I watched Oasis, which was easily the best of the pilots.

The show is based on the Michael Faber book, The Book of Strange New Things and written by Matt Charman. Kevin Macdonald was the director. The show stars Game of Thrones alum Richard Madden as a priest who is summoned to a remote planet, Oasis, as Earth is facing an End of Days crisis.

Here’s how Amazon describes Oasis:

"Set in the near future, Oasis tells the story of priest Peter Leigh, who is called to a remote planet where a mysterious multinational company is building the first permanent off-Earth human colony. The planet, Oasis, is humanity’s last chance to escape from Earth’s impending collapse, but it quickly becomes apparent that it may not be as hospitable to humanity as it seems"

This is a familiar angle we’ve seen explored on television and movie. Watching the pilot felt like a combination of The 100, Colony, Interstellar and Lost. It also had a score that was reminiscent of the synthesized sounds heard in Netflix’s Stranger Things. And fans of Game of Thrones will love seeing Rob Stark (Madden) and Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) in the pilot. Anil Kapoor, Antje Traue, Haley Joel Osment also star in the pilot.

The planet is causing some weird accidents to happen and people are seeing things they know can’t possibly be real. Or maybe they are real on this planet? In any event, some strange events are happening and Madden’s character Peter Leigh seems like the only one willing to find answers.

I think this would have made for an awesome movie and I think it can make for a great television show. I didn’t want the pilot to end because I knew I’d have to wait months and perhaps more than a year to find out what happens next. Needless to say, this show gets a ringing endorsement for me and I hope Amazon orders a full season. Oasis has the potential to be one of the best Amazon Originals so fans need to fill out the survey and demand more episodes.

What did you think of the pilot for Oasis? Are you as excited about the potential for this show as I am? Let me know on social media or in the comments section of this article.
